Bunkering Signing Ceremony and Launching
of Safety Campaign at Ports Department

A signing ceremony between the Ports
Department, Ministry of Communications
and Q.R. Sdn. Bhd. for the provision of
bunkering services and the launching of
Safety Campaign was held today at the
Cruise Ship Centre in Muara Port.
Attending as guest of honour was the
Minister of Communications, Yang
Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna
Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin
Haji Apong. Also present at the event
was the Deputy Minister of
Communications, Yang Mulia Dato Paduka
Haji Yussof bin Haji Abd Hamid, Hj
Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong
Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Hj Awang Mohd
Taha, the Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Communications and other
senior officers from the ministry as
well as agencies operating in Muara
Port.
The ceremony began with the recital of
the Surah Al Fatihah followed by a
welcoming speech by Awang Ang Kian Guan,
the Acting Director of Ports. The Guest
of Honour then witnessed the signing of
the contract on Bunkering Facilities
between the Government of His Majesty of
Brunei Darussalam represented by the
Ports Department, Ministry of
Communications and Q.R. Sdn Bhd.
In line with the strategic objectives of
the Ministry of Communications, the
Ports Department is encouraging private
sector to participate in various
services such as goods and cargo
distribution services, logistics
services, transhipment activities, value
added services and this includes
bunkering service, towards realizing the
vision of Muara port to become the Hub
Port for the BIMP-EAGA area.
The event continued with the launching
of a Safety Campaign, where the Guest of
Honour presented safety helmets and
safety vests to various stakeholders of
Muara Port. The Safety Campaign is a
step towards enhancing safety awareness
awareness in ships and ports facilities.
So far, eleven (11) port facilities have
fully complied with the International
Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS)
Code since 1 July 2004. This also
includes Muara Port and Kuala Belait
Port. Yang Berhormat Pehin then
inspected one of the security systems
deployed at the GateHouse of Muara Port.
