THE Ministry of Communications (MoC) is taking safety concerns seriously and is now gearing up towards a safety-oriented year this 2009 following the number of accidents which have occurred in the transport sector throughout 2008.

A special committee has also been established recently to ensure that efforts are made to enhance the safety aspects of the Ministry and its departments, according to the Acting Minister of Communications, Dato Paduka Hj Yusoff Hj Abd Hamid, at a ceremony on the 3 Jan 2009 to mark 2009 as the year to enhance safety within the Ministry.

The ceremony was held at the Amar Pahlawan Hall at the Ministry, which included a briefing entitled "Making a Difference: Implementing the Safety Culture in Brunei Darussalam", delivered by Hj Mohd Soffian Hj Umar, the head of Health, Safety, Environment and Security at Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Co Sdn Bhd.

A mini-exhibition showcasing safety procedures and initiatives also took place yesterday at the lobby area of the Ministry of Communications building.
